please contact sandlily@gmail.com about this dog

Sadie is a standard female Eskie, approximately 7 years old, 30lb and 17" high. She is spayed. Sadie is a very healthy, quiet and calm dog, a wonderful companion dog. She is intelligent, easily trainable, very curious and interested in people. She will bark when someone comes to the door, but she is not at all yappy. She is a good watch dog, but is not a guard dog. She has the instincts of a herding dog, so she does like to chase cats, but only if they run away from her. Otherwise she ignores them. She lived with cats in her past home.

Sadie is the dog for you if you are looking for a pet for yourself. She is very affectionate and really loves to have her chest scratched and to cuddle on the sofa. Sadie is not the dog for your if you are getting a dog "for the kids" or getting another dog to be a "companion" to an existing dog. Sadie wants you to be her companion. She is not indiscriminately affectionate to people – she bonds to her owner.

Sadie is fine with small children on an occasional basis, and should not be in a home with them as their pestering is very stressful for her. Sadie is fine with older children who are gentle. Sadie spent the first five years of her life abandoned in her first owner's backyard, and as a result she is not well socialized with other dogs. You must expect that she will be aggressive toward strange dogs she doesn't know. You cannot take Sadie to dog parks, or let her run around off leash where she might meet other dogs. In her previous home, she lived with two other dogs, and got along well with the other neighbourhood dogs when she was introduced to them gradually.

You must understand that she will take some time to get used to new dogs, and that large dogs frighten her. Sadie is quite a timid dog and can take months to come out of her shell in new situations, but once she does she has a delightful and affectionate personality. You need to be a caring pet owner who understands the realities of integrating a new animal into a home. She needs a gentle and patient owner. You can never be harsh with her. Sadie is an Eskie, and Eskies need exercise. She needs at least two walks a day. Sadie is much less active in hot weather than cold. When it is hot out, she cannot be outside for long periods of time. The colder the weather is, the more exercise she wants.

Sadie loves to wade and swim. Sadie needs to live with the family. If you habitually leave the dog(s) in the backyard for long periods of time, Sadie is NOT the dog for you. Sadie's ideal home is with people who have owned dogs (preferably Eskies or other Spitz dogs) before and understand the work involved, where there is lots of activity but no conflict, where she will be walked twice a day without fail (no excuses!), where she will be loved, petted, protected and cherished like she deserves and where she will live as part of the family.

If you think you can give Sadie a home, please email me.
